Die Ministerie van Landbou, Water en Bosbou van Namibia het die volgende inligting vrygestel ten opsigte van die jongste ontwikkeling oor Slenkdalkoors soos dit voornemende jagters na Namibia mag beinvloed.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry of Namibia published the following release with regards to the latest developments concerning the Rift Valley Fever outbreak as it may affect hunters who plan to hunt in Namibia.
Biltong for own consumption • The quantities of break dry biltong or “droe wors” that may be exported to South Africa for own use of own consumption has temporarily been increased to 200kg subject to a South African import permit and a health certificate issued by the Directorate of Veterinary Services of Namibia. The reason for this is to make provision for the hunters who may not export fresh venison due to the trade restrictors put in place because of the Rift Valley Fever. • A maximum of 10kg of break dry biltong or “droe wors” may be exported to South Africa without a South African import permit but subject to a health certificate issued by the Directorate of Veterinary Services of Namibia. Biltong for commercial purposes • The biltong or “droe wors” was derived from animals that were hunted outside the Hardap and Karas regions by harvesting teams under official supervision of the Namibian veterinary authorities OR in case of animal hunted within the Hardap and Karas regions the meat was matured at a temperature above +2°C for a minimum period of 24 hours following harvesting in an export approved abattoir. Venison for commercial purposes • The animal were hunted outside of the Hardap and Karas regions by harvesting teams under official supervision of the Namibian veterinary authorities OR in the case of animals hunted inside of the Hardap and Karas regions the meat was matured at a temperature above +2°C for a minimum period of 24 hours following harvesting.

For venison that is hunted for own use / consumption the animals from which the meat is derived may not be hunted in an area under restrictions for Rift Valley Fever. Clients issued with permits for 200kg of biltong who now wish to import venison must request a written dispensation from our permit office. The amount of biltong allowed will then be reduced to 100kg.
