SAHGCA Newsletters (46)
At the start of 2017, there were reports of good rain in certain parts of the country while serious drought is still ravaging other areas such as the Eastern Cape and Karoo. Our hearts go out to farmers and members in these areas. We trust that good rain will come your way.Read more...

At the time of writing this newsletter we have 3 days left of the current hunting season. By the time you receive this message the formal hunting season will be something of the past. I trust that those of you that had the opportunity to hunt, have been successful and responsible. For those of us who have not had that privilege during this year's hunting season, there is always next year to get away to hunt at least once.Read more...
The 2016 hunting season is well on its way. The number of calls and queries received at the office has dwindled considerably. Clearly the majority of our members' attention is with hunting. We appeal to members to leave the hunting farm in the same condition as what they would like to find it at their arrival.
I have had the opportunity to visit a part of Limpopo province and it is clear the impact of the drought is much more severe than one might have estimated. Please keep this in mind when you are hunting in the dry areas and be extremely careful with fires that might create havoc in such a dry season.
1. Court Application
At a very late stage in the legal process the state attorney requested more time for the Minister to prepare a responding affidavit. We accepted and agreed to the additional time but he still did not file the documents in good time. While writing this newsletter to your, the responding affidavit plus all the attachments thereto were being sent by e-mail. We received a copy of the Affidavit in electronic format but without all the supporting documentation it was impossible to get to grips with the case being argued.
The 2016 hunting season has arrived. I heard the first shots being fired on neighbouring farms over the past weekend. Those of you who are fortunate to go hunting in the coming months, please remember to adhere to firearm safety rules and always act responsibly. It is a privilege to be allowed a couple of days in the veld. Only leave footprints, respect nature, the property of others and your fellow hunter.
Recent game auction reports have shown a downward trend in game prices. Although the widespread drought and a reduction in demand might have had an impact on the prices, it could be that the reality of game farming has dawned upon the industry. New entrants into the game farming sector might have realised that it was not the easy money that some purported it to be. Only time will tell.
